Baig (left) setup Hack Partners in 2015 to help rail sector take advantage of new technology that could improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
Founded in May 2015, Hack Partners is now over 3 and a half years old. The HackTrain initiative which CEO, River Tamoor Baig, founded with the idea that the rail industry needed help catching up with other sectors who were steaming ahead and reaping the benefits of new digital services. Today, Hack Partners has significantly contributed to the digital revolution (evolution for some firms) in rail through championing innovation and producing the B.A.R.R.I.E.R.S. Report.
River says his journey in rail industry so far has been “eye opening… occasionally frustrating due to the pace of change… but also beautiful when something does happen. Never dull – definitely never dull. It’s not an easy industry to survive in as a startup. I don’t think there are many rail-based companies out there who have made the level of impact we have in such a short amount of time, even so, it hasn’t been a walk in the park.”
Bartlett-Tasker, joins Hack Partners as Chief Operating Officer.
Baig mentions that the decision behind bringing on board new business partners was an easy one stating that “I’ve been running Hack Partners as a ‘solo entrepreneur’ for 2-years now. It’s a lot of work, running what is essentially three businesses in one – events, consulting, and product. Most people struggle to run one company, yet, for some reason I’ve decided to do three hah. The challenges that come with doing so much are seemingly endless… I’ve basically looked after our client relationships, marketing efforts, conduct industry thought leadership, business forecasting and more… it’s hard to do so much, even harder to do it well sustainably.
I feel that Hack Partners has matured a lot as a business over the last few years, as have I as an leader… now, as we naturally transition from startup to SME, we need more rigorous processes, more governance, and more stability. It’ll provide more assurance to our clients… and also to my ourselves. In order to really scale our operations up and make an even bigger impact it was clear we needed more senior leadership with the right level of experience to make it happen. Haydon and Raphael have demonstrated that they’re the two people to do this. I’m incredibly incredibly excited to have both of them on board!”
Haydon Bartlett-Tasker, spent three years at one of the original strategy and innovation houses in London. He was responsible for leading large corporates and startups through their most difficult commercial challenges. His expertise lies largely in the Technology, Defence & Cyber, Health & Financial Services sectors, where he has delivered numerous growth and innovation strategies and built new ventures worth over £800M. Before Inzenka, he served as a Strategy and Decision Sciences consultant at PA Consulting Group and started his career as a graduate trainee at HSBC.
River mentions that “Haydon brings a wealth of cross-sector strategy and innovation experience which can really help Hack Partners and our clients change for the better”
Haydon said that he is “super excited about joining Hack Partners. I can’t wait to bring my skills and experience from outside the industry to help clients better deliver on their strategies and solutions which allow them to drive margin and improve performance and the customer experience. We have a wonderful team of talented individuals; incredible hackathon designers and engineers; and a fantastic clients base.”
Cavalcanti, joins Hack Partners as Chief Product Officer.
Raphael Cavalcanti, a dual citizen of Germany and Brazil spent 6 years at Bombardier Transportation as part of their graduate trainee programme as a strategy & business development analyst and as well as a bid & sales manager. His work with Bombardier exposed him to the world of rail and public transportation across the globe. After his experience directly within the railway industry, Raphael joined the Boston Consulting Group as their lead analyst for rail, supporting companies across the value chain improve their performance, better understand the trends affecting their businesses and deliver greater value to their end-customers.
“I joined Hack Partners because it provided me with a unique opportunity to join a great team whose mission it is to accelerate the rate of digitization in the rail industry. This fits in perfectly with my personal ambition of helping to push the rail industry further and create products that solve real-day problems. ”
What can the industry expect that’s different moving forward?
River says he thinks a lot will change with the two new leaders on board. “Certain things will definitely be ‘different’, others will improve drastically. Haydon and Raph enable us to make sure we as a company are improving in the right ways and are able to increase the quality of our work even more. Our immediate focus as a team is to further support our current client base whilst enabling me to explore and develop other areas of the business, like our newest initiative, InfraHack.”
